Honey Market Finally Moving Up

Higher world honey prices have been anticipated for some time. It looks like prices are finally moving up and fairly rapidly at that.  The southern hemisphere crops, like Argentina, look to be poor. The low value of the U.S. dollar also makes imported honey more expensive. With China all but shut out of the U.S. market because of high duties imposed on them by anti-dumping legislation, a honey shortage could be developing. Packers are looking forward to the U.S. summer crop with anticipation and hope that a good crop will keep overall prices stable.  The recent rains in California hopefully will produce a good crop of local honey.

You may wonder how the price of Argentine or Chinese honey can effect the price of California Orange.  Very simply, it is a world market.  Beekeepers are aware of what prices are around the world and charge for their product accordingly. U.S. honey typically commands a premium over honey from other sources.

5 pound Jugs

Here is a great way to save on honey, buy a 5lb jug.  We have other deals on larger quantities of honey, which are listed below.  The five pound however is a very popular size, perfect for a family or someone that uses more than the average amount of honey.  We have three flavors available, Clover, Orange and Wild.  This is the same honey found in the Rita Miller jars sold here on our site, but at a lower price per pound.  (the Wild is Wildflower) Check out these prices:

Clover  $9.00

    Orange $9.00

        Wild      $7.50

Since these are large containers of honey, the shipping will vary by location.  Please e-mail for a total delivered price.  Specify how many and your zip code and we will respond back quickly.

We have more honey than our site shows

Miller's has a full selection of honey.  We have on our site our Rita Miller line, which has many flavors you do not usually see, packed in one pound glass jars.  We also sell many sizes of plastic jars and jugs, from 8 ounces to 5 pounds.  We also carry Creamy Honey!  If there is a product you want or wonder if we have, e-mail us for a quote.

Bulk honey for storage

(Or for those who like a lot of honey!)

Clover, Orange, Sage and Wildflower honey are all available in a 5 gallon plastic pail.  This is 60 pounds of honey.  The Wildflower is available for $69.00, which is $1.15 per pound.  The Clover, Orange and Sage honey are $93.00 or $1.55 per pound. These prices do not include shipping.  This cost depends on your distance from Southern California.  For example to ship 5 gallons all the way across the country is about  $52.00, but to Chicago it is only about $45.00.  If you live in California, it's practically free!! (well, at least a lot cheaper).  Unfortunately honey is heavy, which makes mail order expensive if the distance is great.  This is a quality product.  Much better than most Supermarket honey, except our own of course!   Please contact us for a personalized quote.

                                             One Gallon Bucket Available

For those not wanting five gallons of honey, how about one gallon?  Buy your honey in a small plastic bucket, like a five gallon, but easier to handle and cheaper to ship! This size is available in Clover, Orange and Sage  for $21.00and only $16.20 for Wildflower.  As with the larger buckets, shipping will vary, so e-mail for a personalized quote.  Don't forget to include your zip code.

Filtered versus Unfiltered Honey

We have had several e-mail inquiries questioning how we process our honey.   All Miller's honey is unfiltered.  The honey is heated enough to pump it and then strained through 100 micron filter bags.  The resulting product is as natural as we can get it and still be able to bottle it with modern equipment.  Most of the larger honey packers use filter presses with diatomaceous earth to filter their honey.  The process requires high temperatures.  The result is a very clear product, but some of the natural goodness of the honey is destroyed.  For example the pollen is gone and the naturally occurring enzymes are history.  Compare our products with the "national brand", you will see and taste a difference.

Storing Honey

To retain honey's wonderfully luxuriant texture, always store it at room temperature; never in the refrigerator. (however a freezer is good, see below) If your honey becomes cloudy, don't worry. It's just crystallization, a natural process. Place your honey jar in a pan of water and heat gently until the crystals disappear.  If the honey is in a plastic container, scoop it out and put in a sauce pan or other suitable container and heat at a very low temperature.  After it has cooled back down you can pour it back into the original container.  Remember, never boil or scorch honey.  For long term storage that will preserve the color (honey darkens in time) you can also store a jar of honey in the Freezer.

Note: Honey should not be fed to infants under one year of age. Honey is a safe and wholesome food for older children and adults.
